The patent sales story got a lot of press as Yahoo have just sued Facebook before its IPO so Facebook really needed these patents. I think the Bing Search story is equally interesting. With all Facebook knows about people and all it's "liked" pages if it was to buy Bing and combine the two it would be a serious competitor to Google. Right now Bing is loosing lots of money and with Microsoft not doing well in the mobile market and sales of Windows and MS Office down they need to manage their costs better to keep shareholders happy.

Whether it happens or not is another story but as on option for Facebook it's extremely interesting. They may have said no a year ago but after this upcoming IPO they will have a lot more money to play with.
