video site server optimization

Hello all, i currently own a dedi server from leasweb, i have a youtube style video site,with most videos about 50mins in length, my problem is when i get just 30-40 active viewers,the site lags and gives outs video not found error or buffs forever, can someone tell me what settings to use to optimize the server which has 6gb ram, thanks in advance

B/w: i am paying platinum server management monthly to oversee the server but their guys, it seems don't know what the are doing or much regarding video sites.

What the use of paying them if they don't know shit
Use Nginx + PHP-FPM + Xcache
Your site should be able to support many users then
Btw how much RAM you have on your server

Hello, thanks for the reply, i have been using them because unlike others, the offer free server setup with Harding, free data transfers, in my case my datas are over 700gb, they also offer free mod installations unlike others that charge per. I haven't been able to find a better alternative.

My ram is 8gb memory not 6mb as typed in my first post
I have no idea what Nginx + PHP-FPM + Xcache is or does or how to do it

I would suggest googling each and asking your host staff if they are familiar with the configuration and installation of these software?

Since you're streaming data I'd recommend putting your streaming/static files on a separate server. I'd even suggest you try S3+Cloudfront (you would then not need much resources, and mind you, Amazon AWS is so cheap).
