"I saw some posts about this company a loong time ago, but they are really gaining traction now.
Think "paypal", but with a card-swipee dongle for you mobile device, your own mobile POS that accepts CC / Debit cards.

I was a little leery at first, but read up on them quite a bit, Alyssa Milano had joined the company as an "adviser"" Still milling that one about...They've been written up on Wired, Mashable, even some major news outlets.

Long story short, the account is free, they send you a free CC swipee dongle, you aim it at your bank account, similar to PayPal, and they charge a small % +0.15, a little more if you manually enter the numbers. Unlike paypal, they don't hold money themselves, you can't have a "Squareup balance". It just shoots right into your bank account, minus their fees. Creates receipts via email, etc.

For those that need something like this in the field, it can sure cut down on the "invoice and wait" time.

They already have the free app for iPhone et. al., Android, HTC, and a few other mobile devices. Whoda thunk?? I'm trying it out, I'm pretty darned impressed so far. Simple, cheap, easy to get going. I'm sure it will complex up as they expand and add features, but I'd say it's off to a jolly good start."

About SquareUp
In February 2009, Jim McKelvey wasn?t able to sell a piece of his glass art because he couldn?t accept a credit card as payment. Even though a majority of payments has moved to plastic cards, accepting payments from cards is still difficult, requiring long applications, expensive hardware, and an overly complex experience. Square was born a few days later right next to the old San Francisco US Mint.
Today the Square team is focused on bringing immediacy, transparency, and approachability to the world of payments: an inherently social interaction each of us participates in daily.
Square is backed by Khosla Ventures and a team of angels.
Square, Inc. has offices in San Francisco (Product & Engineering), Saint Louis (Operations), and New York City (Risk & Partnerships).

The SquareUp.com has been backed by Khosla Ventures and its founder is Vinod Khosla
