    First thing you should learn is performing basic actions through SSH:

    -Keeping your box up-to-date
    -Rebooting the complete box, httpd/lighttpd/... , SQL, PHP, ...
    -Securing your box

    I highly recommend that you use LightTPD on your VPS, as it consumes less RAM and can execute dynamic pages *much* faster than Apache.
