What kind of a web-site to make money.?

I may have a bit of money to invest soon..I want to make a web-site like this:

Or something on those lines.That site has great backlinks and generally has newbies visiting it, it isn't that hard to maintain IMO as well.
Make money from pop-ups/advertisements etc.
I am totally new to this.Can someone suggest the type of web-site I should invest in..?
