I hate to say it but just because you aren't located in the US doesn't protect you from violation DMCA or copyright acts most countries now have copyright acts which you could be violating, I've got several of these being the hosting provider, fi you don't act expect to get sued and hit big, better just to do what they ask and remove it, or face up to what they want to charge you with.

Not true at all, It used to be like this but no longer is it, If you have a blog, forum, or anything related and ANYONE posts illegal content, copyright content and it violates any laws, you are at risk of the fines, It's called linking to copyright material which is now a law in several countries.

Yep for sure, if they want you, they will get you, It just will depend if your a big fish in the sea or a nobody that no one can see.
