HostGi.com dhi-forumerz.comHow does upgrading RAM work?
Hi Guys,
Ok i have a question:
I have a VPS with a hosting provider,
and they are telling me somethign which i am new to.
Basically i purchased a VPS which had 2GB Dedi Ram & 3GB Burst Ram
So i decided to upgrade my VPS to have another +1GB Ram which i paid for.
Anyway What i have been given is 3GB Dedi Ram & 3.5GB Burst Ram,
but i am saying that i should get 3GB Dedi & 4GB Burst but all the staff
are saying i am wrong, so i have this question to ask,
Who is right?
Me:
3GB Dedi Ram & 4GB Burst Ram
Hosting Provider:
3GB Dedi Ram & 3.5GB Burst Ram
I just want this cleared up as the staff are making
me feel stupid.
Regards,

worldwidexs.com.auBurst RAM is RAM that is available to you assuming no one else is using it.
Never rely on burst RAM for production purposes, because it's not meant to be there for long periods of time.
Burst RAM isn't just a marketing gimmick though, there are cases where you just need abit more RAM for a little time to do something more intensive. Examples: compiling applications, generating graphs/stats from web logs, etc.

vaporhostn.comBurst ram is just temporary ram.. You "can" use it as normal ram but most providers see constant use of it then they usually restart your vps until it stops...
They can give you .1gb of burst ram if they wanted to.. your only paying for 2gb or 3gb dedicated ram...
Just because they gave u a whole gigabit of burst ram doesn't mean they will do it again.. There are multiple users on the server so they need available ram somewhere for when it gets to much.
