    Default Screen Resolution

My Monitor can support up to 1280x1024, but when I put that as the screen resolution, I just get a black screen and need to wait until It reverts back. This is in Windows 7 Home Premium. But when I do this on Windows XP on the same computer, it changes to the resolution no problems. Why? Anyway to fix this or bypass it in Windows 7 HP?

I updated and everything. I have a shitty card. ATI Rage 128PRO. But if it works on XP shouldn't it work with Windows 7?

Probably not. You need Windows 7 drivers and for a 10 year old card likely not available. Furthermore the video card memory requirements for Windows 7 are higher than that for XP.

Most modern videocards have a 'compatible with Windows 7' certification.

When going into high monitor modes your chip has to have a certain amount of memory to use...

Windows xp doesnt use any fancy graphics.. as windows 7 uses more for the aero themes...

Also if you have your settings on 60hz or 70 or 75hz depending on the monitor you use
