Colocation Questions and taking suggestions for DC

ok so im almost got my 1U server ready little config testing left to do but most is ready

Main Questions
1.Shipping server is there anything i should be worried about? Customs etc should i ship it under anonymous name etc etc has anybody in warwez server hosting business encountered issues when shipping there servers from USA to offshore hosts?

2.Best base linux OS to run on server? will be using solus vm and whcms on top of that.

3.security precautions should i take for the moment?? the server is more for personal use once i get used to it im rent out small vpses to friends

4.Those of you who actually co-locate your servers advice suggestions?
some advised i should look into smart DC and ecatel although i hear ecatel is not quality people to work with looked into mhost and hostkey not sure who i want to use tbh. preferably host with quality fast English support and 1000mbps port none of this slow 10/100mbps (at that speed might as well co-locate at my house and use reverse proxy hosting)


any help is greatly appreciated still ahve a week or so before ill be able to ship it off

Ecatel is cheap 70Eur for 1U rack and 1000mbps shared port

Shipping andcstuff contact datacenter they will help u the best for your enquires

Neverhost your billing and main server on same place in case if DDoS clients are left helpless

Go with ProServe ( NL ) or Equinix ( NL ) they are both great D.C's and have awesome uptimes.

Best thing to do for now is depending on what you want to colo your server for like hosting for others or personal use..

Figure whats best for you a Gbps line shared or dedicated or something smaller..

If its hosting for others then what ever money your gonna spend like enci said find a top notch cheap vps provider to host your main site on then from there decide how you want it all setup..

Debian id say in my own experience is the best os but most use centos because its the hosters default..

Security measures to look into are securing your web server and find a firewall to help you to help against ddos..

Most of the time for shipping i like to advise to always pack your server with very very good box cushion because those people who handle the boxes are assholes.. always remember to mark it as fragile for a just in case..

this one is mostly for personal in future i may start offering it publicly once i get this workign and used to it im goign to duplicate this setup and start offering more hostign options

good pics. btw why ur shipping from USA to EU. what will you do, if your RAM blown up, disk failed. will you fly to Europe ?

im sending extra hdds in the case... they said they(Ecatel and a few others i asked ) can fix it for about 30 euro/hr if worst case scenario such a thing does happen

in response to suggestion to have billing and support offserver in case of hdd failure etc

have setup legit WHMCS and email on solid host separate host then the colocated server also has valid ssl
setting up with CENTOS 6 +solusvm+ Xen
should be a solid config thanks for the help and suggestions be offering 10 VPS slots in future any other suggestions?

ugh just an FYI cost like 480$ USD to ship from chicago > netherlands sucks not too mention i ahve no idea how much there customs will charge me lol

Why don't you just lease the server? Colo isn't going to work, you will be paying remote hands if something goes wrong, you will also need replacement parts if something fails. Since you don't live near the datacanter, you need a managed colo, it's not going to be cheap.

leasing is mad expensive 400-500 for a similar hardware a month and i dont own it at the end of the day

with current setup i spend 99 euros(132$) a month for 1000mbps port and 100TB BW/mo
bigger profit margin etc and i own it yes repair might be expensive but in the end it more then balances it out
