If chrome is using more ram it's because you've more plugins or heavier ones installed which is most likely as the FireFox ones for v7 all break anyway with every upgrade. With no or equal plugins Chrome uses less ram.

Google Chrome even out performs FireFox at it's own bench mark test which is called SunSpider which is crap anyway. In fact Mozilla's SunSpider is so outdated that Google went and improved it by increasing the iterations to 50. And guess what? Google was still faster.

Chrome is faster. no if's buts or maybe's and in about three more weeks will pass FireFox who's numbers have being falling rapidly over the last few months while Chrome's have being exploding.
