Google's New Website - howtogomo.com

Earlier today Google launched a new website http://www.howtogomo.com/
Before even looking at content it's a really cool slick interactive and easy to use site and worth checking out for that reason alone. It's all about trying to get people to improve their website for mobile devices. Recently Google launched a Google Site builder for mobile devices to help webmasters create mobile sites. I never used it as I just create my own but it's worth checking out. This new website labeled GoMo is an extension of that to help webmasters see what their site looks like on a mobile device.

First I should say I'm a big fan of making mobile version of sites. I released a mobile plugin for vBulletin about 3 years ago and have made several mobile apps and themes since so I'm a big supporter of this and what Google is doing. I've being asking for a mobile version of KWWH for years too but have given up now.

The cool thing about Google's new site is it does show you what your site looks like. Their are loads of these online sites that try and show you what your site looks like but to be honest most are crap, at least the ones I've used in the past anyway. It's tells you what to improve and then helps you create a mobile site depending on your budjet and doesn't push Google's own products on you either. Google knows the more people who have mobile version of sites the more time people will spend online on their smartphones and that means Google gains more from adverts in the long term so that's what they want. It's like the way they help and encourage websites to be faster.

Your reply reminds me of an example for others.

check out http://moanmyname.net and http://moanmyname.net/m/ which is the mobile version (NSFW) which is your site. The mobile version brings in lots of horny kids who don't what to be searching porn on their home PC's that the rest of their family use. This is a perfect example of how a mobile version has increased traffic.

Nice share but personal I like this one better http://iphonetester.com/ because I can actually use the site when its loaded. The bad thing its a test just for iphones and thats the diffrence with gomo.

IPS has solved this pretty nice in my personal view with there mobil skin.

This is why I mentioned this site and how the other sites I've tried in the past are crap.

All the iphonetester site does is load the page in an iframe. It just loads the regular site unlike Google which follows the redirect and shows the true mobile version.

Basically iphonetester is crap as can be seen in my screenshots below and that's why I was so happy when Google released this site.

Another major flaw. iphonetester shows flash sites and the flash adverts? That's a complete disaster as we all know that flash doesn't work on iPhone or the iPod Touch so that's another reason it's misleading.

Well I cant click/use anything when I test a site in gomo but with the iphonetester I can and that also means switching to a fully working and clickable mobile skin on a IPB forum.

I understand that the view part is more automatic and better looking in gomo but personal when I test a site in any mobil testsite I also want to be able to use the site I test and not just look at it.

The site is pretty cool but its not working at my end. Whenever i test a site, i get a popup saying 'preview error'.
