Building a better file host service

1. Get a good site design.
2. Implement an efficient file manager ( look at fileserve,megaupload and filesonic).
3. Give preference to free users, give them good download speed. 1-2 mb. Dont make them wait 30 minutes between downloads.
4. Good upload speed from both US and EU servers.

The problem now is, if you want to be successful you'll have to implement an affiliate program as well. Without one, 99% of the uploaders wont use your site. Although without an affiliate program your host will be legally more secure.

Offer a good free service. Popups and advertisements for free users are fine howeaver. Just give them decent speed. I for one will never buy off a host that only gives a couple kb/s to free users.

Also dont make the wait for first file to long, if possible remove it and only have it on subsequent files (or not at all).

Premium users should be able to get atleast 20mbit, anything less and you wont attract alot of people.

Also no file upload storage limitations, its just gay.

No limitations for premium users - premiums should have total access.

No ranks for affiliates - ranks are a great way of cheating affiliates,
and if there are ranks - make the rules about them precise and clear.

No ridiculous download wait times for free users, first download should
be instant and subsequent could depend on file size.

You can notice that the file-hosts that do not pay for downloads or whatever are more reliable and fast.

I don't think file hosting is a good venture for you guys. Especially if you want to implement an affiliate system that would only drain your money, you could really wash down that 110k easily and not breakeven.

Just think about it first, cause people have been setting up filehosts and they eventually shut down due to limited resources, copyright laws, etc.

But if you do eventually push through with it, I say go for rebills for an affiliate plan. And also listen to your uploaders like if they need ftp upload or a rapidleech plugin.
