The reason why RDP is laggy is because a lot of data has to be transferred from the server to your screen.

I have a 16MBs connection and the RDP is just a little laggy. Of course it also depends how many people are connected.

ask for ping IP first, but in your case this is the main cause:

Speed of RDP Generally Depends on

    1) Location
    Solution Check your ping
    2) Users per Server
If speed of server is 1GBPS its not dedicated so maximum a server can push is 500MBPS and People are uploading @ speed of 400MBPS
That leaves 100MBPS for RDP Users with active users constantly figiting with RDP its most likely used up

    Just my 2 cents

my connection is 1mbps and its a bit laggy.
its too laggy when u open images or videos.
So i suggest, minimize the graphics, and resolution.
Better go for Linux as they are blazing fast

reduce the colors to 15bit or 256 colors, reduce the desktop size, set the performance level to match your internet speed.

you can also try to add these lines in your default.rdp file in Windows 7 C:\Users\YOUR USER\Documents

    Code:
    bitmapcachesize:i:32000
    bitmappersistcachelocation:s:\Temp
    make sure
    Code:
    bitmapcachepersistenable:i:1
you can even set the value
    Code:
    session bpp:i:value
to 8 but the display will be a real crap

    NOTE:
default.rdp is a hidden file, you can edit it with Notepad.
