i would assume google puts preference to their products where relevant searches is concerned

Well it doesnt matter. If you are searching for lets say "movies" you want the best site related to movies to show up, not some site google made regarding movies.

Now Firefox shows 1st. Well there site is old and has a good PR and I am pretty sure it has plenty of backlinks so it deserves to be there. Chrome already has a featured ad spot so if you think about it its kinda still 1st. no reason to have have double chrome results.

I didn't mess up.

Search for "Chrome" or "Google Chrome" should display the first non-sponsored result as : http://google.com/chrome

But that doesn't happen now, as its penalized
