Qarizma's TuneUp Tips
Tired of being faster than your computer? These are basic but very powerful tips to increase your system's performance.
So lets start!
[A] - Don't run multiple anti-virus/spyware.
One of the biggest mistakes of system security is running multiple security software. Example: running Avast and Kaspersky. I'm not going into the discussion about which one is the best blablabla. It's a simple rule, just use one anti-virus. This includes the most popular application Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Malwarebytes does have the most advanced virus definitions. So using XXX Internet Security with Malwarebytes is just wasting system performance. Why? They both run real-time protection services which use a big amount of resources.
Qarizma: I use Microsoft Security Essentials, works great. Before this I used Malwarebytes Anti-Malware with realtime protection module enabled.
[B] - Running applications in background.
Again a huge mistake, running loads of apps in background. I even had applications that I didn't used eating my resources! Solution: disable them!
How? Start - type "msconfig" and click on the tab Startup. Uncheck applications that you don't use. Be careful because you can't just disable services. You can disable everything related to Updaters like AdobeUpdater, GoogleUpdater, JavaUpdate etc.
Qarizma: Do not allow applications to startup on boot unless you are going to use them!
[C] - Registry and crap.
There have been discussions regarding the registry, some of them say don't use registry cleaners etc. But the fact is, unused entries = useless entries. So you can safely delete them. Even better; it will increase system startup. Once you boot up your computer the registry will be loaded into memory/system. The less reg entries you have, the less your system needs to load. Also remove your temporarily files like downloads, prefetch, windows updates, internet files.
Qarizma: I use CCleaner to cleanup my registry and remove my temp files. I strongly do NOT recommend any other tool. I've used many before and there where some bad results.
[D] - Browsing performance.
To tune up your browsing performance try to disable plugins, addons, accelators that you don't use. Trust me, you will notice the difference.
Qarizma: I personally use Firefox, and it's not the fastest browser but I like it. I just have a few plugins like screenshot and firebug.
[E] - Disk defragmentation.
I am 100% sure that YOU never did this? Or even until X%?
Well here is a tip, try it once. And you will do it monthly. Please don't ask me how it tunes up your system, just do it. It works for me. It also free's up some diskspace for you!
Qarizma: I defrag my disk and brain monthly. Weekly is not needed I guess/hope.
[F] - Upgrading to SSD.
This is just an optional tip, if you ever gonna invest in your computer, go for a new SSD HDD instead of RAM or CPU. Don't just plug and play the SSD, clone your original harddisk(the one you have Windows installed on.) onto the SSD disk. Now you can plug your SSD and boot your system through SSD. You can use the old disk for your other data. Note that upgrading to SSD will increase your system performance suprisingly like fast copy/paste, fast applications, fast system bootup and many more!
Qarizma: Installing a clean Windows on a SSD is always better.

Nice tips,
SSD is fine, if you still need to boost the performance of ssd means, read the following
Over-provisioning is a term used to describe the process of increasing the spare area on a solid-state drive (SSD). Much like “short
stroking” a hard disk drive (HDD), over-provisioning an SSD increases the performance and endurance of an SSD.
Use claasic theme instead of vista or other high RAM eating themes(Simple is always better and productive)
Keep less things on desktop, move it to other folders..

Elite.SO Defendos.com Motionite.comOne thing I forgot is disabling the Windows Sidebar. This will improve too.
Changing the theme will only work if you have a lowend GPU card.
Yes I tried, but I feel it's a very commercial application with the exact same feature as CCleaner.
