The future of web communication has just arrived

So like what happens every few weeks a Google Chrome update is released but nobody ever notices it as it just updates itself. I want to explain one cool thing that has being added to the developer version of Google Chrome which is WebRTC (Web Real Time Communication) and has got zero publicity.

Basically audio or video chat is not built into the browser by default. If you've ever used Skype on Facebook or a Google+ Hangout or any other type of video or text messaging system you'll notice you have to install a plugin but these sites have huge developer teams to create these custom plugins. As a result these plugins are easy to install and once you do it you never have to do it again. The problem is all these video chat systems use different plugins so you end up with a plugin for every site.
This is where WebRTC is useful. It allows any site to plug into the Real Time Communication with a few lines of javascript API and HTML 5. You no longer have to have a dedicated developer team to code you a browser plugin or use a third party support plugin (think about LiveZilla you see on hosting sites). Porn or cam sites, support sites, traditional chatboxes, etc will all now be able to have real time video communication without any plugins or huge developer teams. Forget third party software like skype. Developers can build it into games so you can see and talk to your friends as you play. The possibilities are endless.

It's added to the developer version of Google Chrome so will be on the full version in about two months. Mozilla and Opera also support this open source project so should have it at a later date. The future of web communication has just arrived.

Of course IE probably won't support this as they recently paid billions for Skype which is another reason to ditch IE.
