Statement from RapidShare on the closing of Megaupload

A response from RapidShare CEO Alexandra Zwingli about their views on the Megaupload takedown.

One of the main differences between RapidShare and services such as Megaupload is the fact that we never had the intention to abscond from legal access of any authority. RapidShare AG was founded in Switzerland and in fact, it was always located at the address given in the company details and was always run under real names without any anonymous intermediate businesses. The radical measures against Megaupload were apparently required since the situation there had been totally different.

Why would RS CEO come forward and give such a statement?

I'd have expected a statement like this to be posted on their site instead of released as a letter like this. They must be a bit scared to release the statement in such a way. Most large tech companies release statements on their official blogs which is what Rapidshare usually does in it's news area shown below

i was trying to find the new on their site too.. at least mediafire put out a statement right away on their blog saying they are a legit company and dont support piracy
