Plesk and nginx

Hello, I am running the latest version of Plesk and I am running Apache. I was wondering is it possible to run JUST nginx with Plesk and not use Apache at all?

If not I found this tutorial on how to run nginx along side apache for Plesk. http://www.grafxsoftware.com/faq.php...y-reverse/1/1/

It says If not, then you will need the source files from http://nginx.org/en/download.html (always get the latest)

Then it gives you the wget command wget http://sysoev*****nginx/nginx-0.x.xx.tar.gz

Can someone give me the correct wget command as in the link for the package, I want the latest and most stable version that will work best with plesk.

I last used Plesk about 3 years ago and from what I remember, it only really supports a standard LAMP configuration. It will probably be more hassle than it is worth to get nginx working with it.

You could always learn how to manage your server without a control panel. There are plenty of tutorials on howtoforge that will guide you through the process of setting up LEMP, entirely through command line. Once you know how, administration is much easier, plus, control panels are a waste of time anyway.

Also, if you're running Ubuntu or Centos as your chosen distro, they have ppa's or repositories that make installing the latest version of nginx a breeze.

I am running Cent OS, the tutorial I put a look to seems easy but I need to know what to put for wget http://sysoev*****nginx/nginx-0.x.xx.tar.gz

The 0.x.xx

I need the numbers to put their for the latest stable release.

Plesk is only good for Windows servers.

Grab the latest stable (1.0.12), although you won't be doing any harm using the development version.

Whats the difference between the development version and the stable version? I need to pick the best version to help defend against DDoS attacks, what is the best version for me to go for?

The development version looks good, it has a lot of bug fixes.

Yes to the wget command above.

The difference is that the development version is, as the name suggests, in development. Once a bug is found, it is first fixed in the development version and then later backported to stable.

On the subject of defending against DDOS, its more down to the firewall than the webserver when trying to mitigate attacks. If you are really worried about it, then you should consider hosting that can provide DDOS protection.

Chances are though, you will never be faced with a DDOS attack.

one more thing,if its your host which is saying the node is under ddos,move.if they cant mitigate an attack,no point staying with them

if you are on a dedi,hire a person/follow tutorials on the net,
use different webserver if you want to optimize performance/speed
if you want to reduce attacks,use iptables,firewall to do so

What do you mean chances are you will never be faced with a DDoS attack, I am hit with Layer 7 DDoS attacks daily. Also some Apache takedown methods such as Slowlris but I managed to patch that. I am also using CSF firewall, DDoS deflate and some Apache modules and ip tables rules. I configured CSF, Apache and the server. Everything is fine but Apache can still get hit down sometimes, thats why I want nginx, also nginx does defend much better against DDoS attacks, it helps out a lot in addition to what I already have.
