Posterous acquired by Twitter

The surprising news came today via the Posterous blog, with the company announcing that they had been acquired by Twitter, and that despite the move the service will remain "up and running" without disruption.

It appears there are no immediate plans to make changes, but the team says they will give lots of notice if they are planning on changing the service, and that they will offer backup services for those who want to move in the coming weeks. A FAQ posted by the Posterous team reiterates that nothing is changing in the near future.

Twitter's official announcement today said that they "are welcoming a very talented group from Posterous to Twitter" and that "Posterous engineers, product managers and others will join our teams working on several key initiatives that will make Twitter even better." The move appears to be a talent acquisition rather than a technology one as the teams are merging rather than remaining relatively seperate.
