dotvps.netPersonally, I would go for the X3430 this is due to ive used the X34xx series for a series of months now and its a pretty amazing CPU.
I've never used an i5 so im not sure , to me an i5 is desktop equipment but then again it depends what your hosting.
3.2TB for the X3430
4TB for the i5.
Both 4GB ram..
Depends what you're going to be hosting with what size disk you need if its a small site maybe look into getting an SSD?
In the question about DoS attacks.. It depends what type of attack if its UDP flooding which will fill the port or Slowloris flood which will overload the webserver..

vaporhostn.comIt all depends on what exactly your gonna use it for.
The i5 will be good for standard dedicated server hosting.
The xeon would be good for vps since it has expandable memory and better virtualization support.
As for the ddos as dotvps mentioned both could handle slowloris if monitored and configured correctly, but this can be avoided using nginx or a patched server.
As for a udp ddos neither would last long since its only a 100mbps port which will become slow very fast.

I'd probably take the Xeon, and get the drive upgrade to a 1TB, depending on what you're using it for obviously.

What about these server specs?
Intel Xeon Quad Core E3-1230 3.6 Ghz
3,200 GB Bandwidth
Memory 4GB RAM
Hard Drive: 500 GB Enterprise Grade SATA II
IP Addresses: 5
100 Mbps uplink port
Full root access
In general what is a better server? The E3-1230 or X3430, just in general?
