What is the purpose of CloudFlare ?

Moving DNS away from cloudflare can take a very long time for some reason, so they might have problems.

A site took 4 days for the new dns to resolve after changing a few months ago

All i can think its due to the amount of sites using there nameservers?

When you change DNS away from us we don't have any direct control over how fast the registrar makes that change & the propagation (can take between 24-72 hours). This is actually up to the registrar.
