    Default File Hosting intergrades BitCoins

Ok, maybe the title was a bit misleading, but wouldn't it be nice if File Hostings started to payout with BitCoins?

I spoke to many File Host admins who has their servers offshore. However, many files are being deleted for DMCA, but only because they are worried about their payment processors freezing their accounts.

This is where BitCoin comes in. Unlike like any other payment processors, BTC (BitCoin) actually has no central bank. This means, there no charge backs and is almost 100% anonymous, other then your IP address.

I won't go in to any details, but here are some 'basic' videos you can watch to get a 'general idea' of what BTC is about and where they are going with it.

    What is BitCoin:

Oh, yeah I also want to note that OkPay.com (payment processor) has recently integrated BitCoin as well.

You can also trade BTC as you would with Forex/Stocks as well.

    It begins...
Uploaded.to used to accept bitcoins as a mode of payment, but stopped.

Being decentralized means bitcoin is anonymous and irreversible, yes, that's great. But that also means it's highly susceptible to market forces and therefore not a stable currency. There is no real backing; it could de-value to nothing, or it could rise to tens of dollars per coin. The volatility means that it will never be a practical means of spending for most people under most normal circumstances. As a casual currency it's great, but a wide adoption is impossible.

When BitCoin first caught people attention, it went from costing less then penny to $25 per BTC. Early investors/hobbyist had made a fortune from it. Unfortunately, it has devalued to $5 per BTC.

It's too bad I stopped looking for money making 'opportunities online' years ago. I found out about BitCoin from reading Business Week magazine about a year ago and by that time, the value of BTC was already too high for me to make any real money off it.

The main reason for the huge upward spike was due to something called "BitCoin Mining" where people were building mining rigs to mine BitCoins. However, the engine behind BitCoin prevents it from getting out of hand. I won't get in to that here though, too much to explain.

Now that BitCoin mining wasn't profitable anymore people started to sell off their BTCoins in bulks. I wasn't aware of Uploaded.to using BitCoin as a form of Payment, but I can totally understand why they removed it.

The thing about BitCoins, it's much like stocks or currency trading. You have to keep an eye on your investment. If trading stocks/forex isn't your thing, then you can always sell/convert your BitCoins as soon as you receive them.

The value of BitCoins isn't stable now, but I believe a few years down the line things will change. Plus I enjoy trading as a hobby (i'm not an expert or anything, just find it fun and a bit exciting)

I picked up a few BTCs when I first read about it, just to get the general idea of how it works. What I like about this the most is no chargebacks. Unlike paypal where I had done all the work only to have the new client dispute the charges claiming someone else used their account. I also like sending money overseas without the huge transaction fees.

This is precisely why we use CarrotPay.

Bitcoins is not backed by anything, and I am not convinced it is as secure as it claims to be.

CarrotPay on the other hand (http://carrot.org) offer the following:

    - Low Transaction fees of a fixed %5 with no minimum
    - Micro transactions as low as $0.001 (yes that is 1/10 of 1cent)
    - Non-reversible payments
    - Open ID (authenticate using Google/Facebook/Yahoo/AOL and more)
    - Backed 100% by cash
    - Withdraw to Paypal and bank accounts

Not to 'self promote' but we use them preciely because it allows us to sell content on a per download basis rather than subscription. The non reversible payments also means we payout instantly on every download too.

We would never ever use some online fiat currency that has no real value.

'Real' currency may be suseptible to market forces also, but the market behind it is MUCH MUCH stronger than bitcoin. Real currency is also legal tender in their respective jurstictions and with the likes of USD/EUR/GBP/JPY/RMB, they are almost universally accepted due to their relative stability. Bitcoins are essentially worthless, backed by nothing, regulated by no one and legal tender nowhere.

I'm sure most of you guys remember when E-gold.com was popular, but a few years ago their data center got robbed. People lost a fortune because of it. However, with BitCoin, there are no servers to rob since it's P2P.

You're right, BitCoin isn't backed by anything, but nor is US Dollars.. . and yet, people still using it. I'm trying to see things from a different point of view. The younger generation and future generation may very well see things differently. After all, we are now in the digital age.

I'm not bashing on Carrot pay or anything, but to be honest, this is the first time I heard about them. I will look in to it.

CarrotPay is more popular in China and Hong Kong given it is a Hong Kong based company. They seem to be making strides in order to enter the EU/US market.

FileShoppe is based in Hong Kong, which is why we know of them, but we've seen some take up amongst some EU and US based merchants.

    (One comes to mind: http://vectorious.net)

As for bitcoin. It is not backed by anything AT ALL. It is NOT legal tender.

Real currency has two things going for it.

    1. It is LEGAL tender. Regardless of what it is worth, you are legally obliged to accept it when selling goods/services, and legally obliged to pay in taxes.

    2. At the VERY LEAST, money is worth the paper they are printed on. Paper has some value (albeit very small value). Bit coins truley have NO VALUE. They are non physical and without a computer, they don't even exits.

People shoudl also remember that everything is given value based on what people are willing to pay for it. Given that bitcoins are used by a very small minority, and mass pick up is a practical impossibility, it will never have the liquidity of cash.

Things like gold, which is a limited comodity, is at least a physical good and has real industrial value. Bitcoins is neither.

i doubt any filehost will want to pay uploaders with bitcoin. Even though it is anonymous, it is too much hassle and not very popular

Yes, I do agree BitCoin isn't very popular, but it's still a growing trend. I still remember the days when PayPal was beta. All my friends told me they would never use it and mainly because it wasn't a real bank and was unpopular. Yet, today PayPal is like a household name.

Besides, BTC is starting to trend with "freelance strippers" who works for BitCoins -- haha!
