Default Image has failed to upload due to an error Missing a temporary folder.

Hi guys, i am getting the following error while uploading images on my new wp blog.

It was working fine till yesterday and when i logged in today, i got this error.
no plugins were installed/removed during this time.
I used a plugin "wp-smushit" before, but removed it 2 days back.

My "uploads" directory is under 777 already, and also tried creating a folder via cpanel, on public_html folder, by the name "tmp", still stuck with the same error. tmp folder is also given the permisson 777

Any sort of help folks ?

EDIT: I installed WP via softaculous.

    EDIT: Its working now.

Ok so this is a standard WP install correct?

look in wp content folder for uploads folder, inside uploads look for folder 2012. inside 2012 look for 06 because we are in month 06.

    these should be 777
