best video compression software

hi again guys

just wanted to know what would be the best converter or compression software to shrink the size of videos and still keep a high quality .....As i see many mkv movies about that are all very small and i try to convert to them and shrink them but they seem to increase in size lol



so any help wud be appreciated

MKV movies are generally encoded with the h264/x264 video codec, this gives extremely good compression while maintaining high quality. Depending on what you are converting them to (e.g. AVI/Xvid) then the size will increase. To reduce the size you would have to probably reduce the resolution of the movie to something smaller but then you lose quality when it is put in full screen mode during playback.
