Default Access US/UK TV Shows and Music Streaming Sites Without Proxy or VPN for Free

    First things first

I recently found some DNS services that one can use to watch US/UK TV shows and access US music streaming websites and other geo-restricted content. I figured some of you might be looking for an easy way to access these sites and thought I'd create a thread to give a walkthrough of these services. The two DNS services I'm going to discuss are Tunlr and UnoDNS.

By changing your DNS to Tunlr's or UnoDNS's DNS, you can bypass restrictions and easily access the supported streaming video/music sites. Your IP doesn't change, and only the relevant traffic gets routed through US servers, unlike VPNs which route all the traffic through their servers. This works ideally as you can browse normally with your actual IP address and access streaming sites without taking any additional steps. Moreover, this would work for most devices that support changing nameservers. Some of the devices it works are PC/Mac/Linux computers, iPhone, iPod, iPad, Android, Apple TV, PS3, Xbox 360, etc. Not all of the sites work with all devices, though.

Before we start, you should know how to change the DNS servers of your device. I'm linking to instructions on how to change the DNS servers on PC and Mac. You can find details about other devices on Tunlr or UnoDNS sites.

Instructions on how to change DNS servers on Windows/Mac/Linux:
    https://developers.google.com/speed/...dns/docs/using

Scroll down to the section with the heading "Changing your DNS servers settings".

Now, here's a bit about the DNS services and how to set them up:

    1. Tunlr

Tunlr is completely free and doesn't offer any paid plans. There are no limits or advertisements. It's really easy to setup and start using. You don't need to have an account to use Tunlr. All you need to do is find their DNS servers and set them as your DNS servers and reconnect.

List of supported streaming services and which devices they are supported on:

You can find Tunlr's DNS servers here:
    http://tunlr.net/get-started/

    2. UnoDNS

UnoDNS offers Free, Premium and Gold plans. The free plan is not advertised well on the site, but there is one nonetheless. UnoDNS looks a little more reliable since UnoTelly is a registered company and since they earn from their paid plans they can continue to afford offering the free plan. There are no ads or limits on UnoDNS either.

Streaming services available in UnoDNS free account:

To sign up click the big blue button labeled "Try it for free" on the link below. The good part here is that you get to watch all the supported channels (of Gold plan) for free for 8 days, after which you will only be able to access the free channels.

It's a bit trickier to setup UnoDNS as you have to add your current IP address to your account before you can start using it. So if you have a dynamic address you have to add your current IP to your account everytime you use it after reconnecting.

    Find UnoDNS's DNS servers here:
    http://currentdns.unotelly.com/

You can update your IP address by visiting this link (login if prompted):
    http://www.unotelly.com/quickstart2/update_ip.php

Alternatively, you can bookmark the long link under "IP Update API" on the above linked page and you will be able to update your IP address just by visiting that bookmark.

    How it works?

I think this explains it quite succinctly for both Tunlr and UnoDNS:

UnoTelly DirectDNS, like its name implies, utilizes proprietary DirectDNS technology to give you access to blocked websites. Unlike VPN or Proxy, UnoTelly DirectDNS only shields the relevant traffic so you can access blocked websites.

VPN or Proxy is like a big-net that catches every fish in the water but sometimes it is not desirable because you might not want some of the fishes !

On the other hand, UnoTelly DirectDNS functions like a laser-guided net that only catches the relevant fish you want and let other non-essential fish pass.

As result, you can access contents much faster than VPN or other methods available on the market.

    Note

Please note that it's not recommended to use these DNS services all the time. They should only be used when you want to access any supported streaming services. Using their DNS servers permanently puts strain on their servers and they will make sure that your connection becomes slow by use of artificial response delays and rate limiting.

There's an easier way to change DNS servers quickly and easily. You can use a freeware app called DNS Jumper to change your DNS servers back and forth between your default and Tunlr/UnoDNS DNS servers with a few clicks.

To use DNSJumper download and extract it to a directory of your choice. Then open DNSJumper.exe and add Tunlr's, UnoDNS's, and your default DNS servers to the list. Once you have done that you can easily switch to either of them by just selecting their name from the list and clicking Apply DNS and Flush DNS buttons and reconnecting.
