I believe the 1st one was hotfile, and they were so successful that many boards were forced to block them due to massive spamming/flooding

The date they registered their domains doesn't mean anything, you know; I can show you at least 10 huge uploaders in warez-bb (you can check the user "aeckz" for starters) who uploaded exclusively to Megashares since 4-5 years ago while nobody knew Megashare even existed before they started a topic here!
Megashares was so popular among uploaders and downloaders since the beginning because they didn't have a file-size limit for uploads but everyone left them after they removed their reward program a few months ago.
