Web Hosting Types
This article is very helpful to the new comers (newbs)
Today, Web Hosting Market is increasing day-by-day. Many new companies are emerging while many are just getting disappeared. This will happen, ITS Internet my friend. But still, only few people 'really' know the basics of Web Hosting and its types
Below is a brief explanation about Web Hosting Types. This article is written by BlaZe for TutsBy.Me If you want to publish this article elsewhere, then you are free to do so, unless you keep the credits unchanged.
==============================
So we are going to start from smallest to largest
1) Free Hosting
Many established companies offer free hosting to increase their influence in the Hosting Market. Though the specifications of the free hosting would be slightly less than then the paid solutions, but it suits for those who want to setup just a personal website. With Free Packages, you'll mostly find Unwanted-Advertising by the host itself. Its almost similar to Shared Hosting, but the difference is, you don't pay a penny for it.
2) Shared Hosting
Paid Shared hosting accounts are the most common type. With Shared Hosting, many different online businesses and entities share one server. The downside to this is the possibility of web sites not being available due to heavy load processes being utilized by one or more sites at the same time. This type of hosting is also known as virtual hosting as more than one domain is hosted on one server and occasionally even on the same ip address. But what can we do ? Its cheap & good for new comers.
3) Reseller Hosting
Now, the main thing starts from Reseller Hosting. People buy Reseller for two main reasons.
a) To start a small hosting companyReseller is same like Shared Hosting, but you can Add/Delete hosting accounts from your part of the server. You can even charge people to host on your reseller to coverup your costs.
b) To host their own multiple websites
4) Master Reseller Hosting
Same like Reseller, the difference is that, you can even Add Resellers to your share of the server.
So like, you give Resellers from your Master Reseller's Account, and then those Resellers sell hosting and then, they accumulate the money and Pay you.
5) VPS Hosting
Now, a Virtual Private Server would cost you more than Shared/Reseller Hosting, as its a private server just for you. It is most probably used by people who have high traffic sites, as it increases the Load on the Server, so they cannot stick with Shared Hosting, and they are forced to have a VPS. On a VPS, you have the FULL control of the server. You can install/uninstall Softwares, Upgrade RAM, Optimize the Server, etc.
Actually, a VPS is just a service partition of a server into multiple instances of servers ? giving the appearance of a separate server instance for each client. But it suits you if you own a big site. You can even start giving out Resellers/Shared Hosting Accounts to cut the bills.
6) Dedicated Hosting
Dedicated hosting is where a web hosting company allows a client to lease an entire server without needing to share with another client. The advantage to this as compared to shared hosting is having complete control over the server in question. This allows for a great deal of room in as far as what services can be run, software to be installed and also a lot more control over the type of hardware being used.
7) Co-Location Hosting
Co-location hosting is similar to dedicated hosting except businesses pay only for the space they require. A lot of the same services apply as in dedicated hosting but instead of being responsible for an entire server, an online business is only required to attend to that specific section where their site resides.
8) Rack-Space Hosting
Now it's the daddy of all the hosting accounts. Rack-Space Hosting means, that you Physically Rent a Space and there, you Buy your own Servers and place it. Its the same as Co-Location, so we'll not get much into it.
Conclusion
What is all comes down to is the needs of the business that is going to be hosted online. If a very small amount of space and not a lot of control is needed, free or paid shared hosting is the way to go. If the business in question is going to need a lot more control but maybe not as much as what is allowed with an entire server, VPS or VDS hosting may apply. Lastly, if the needs of the online business will require quite a lot of control, extreme flexibility and room to expand as needed, a dedicated hosting option should be considered.
Or Its simple
Free < Shared < Reseller < Master Reseller < VPS < Dedicated < Co-Location < Rack-Space.
Finally, I hope this helps you.
