shadow.prx Reviewed by shadow.prx on . Why the paranoid coding of links? Why are most webmasters so paranoid about giving away their site url to rapidshare by having live links? I mean I just don't get it, why would rapidshare want to catch people? Don't you think rapidshare realise that they make 99.9% of their money off piracy? And even if they did want to catch people, what use would a site url be? I mean why not just go on google and type in 'warez site'? Don't you think people should be more concerned about giving away their paypal address to them? That can be Rating: 5

Again, easier to copy paste. Nobody cares about the referer.

People don't want to have to copy each link seperately, one-by-one. They want to be able to highlight the lot and have copied a complete list.

It also the possibility of "fake links" - like this:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/2323/asd.rar

Says one thing, goes somewhere else.

Not only that by placing a direct link when a user clicks the link rapidshare will get a referer link meaning they can track big downloads and see what they am... thus having more downloads removed...

when you code them it forces the user to open a new tab and paste the link... means rapidshare dont get a referer

Okay, when I ran ShareDXS...I made it mandatory to code links. Why?

1.) Someone already stated this but it's easier to post phishing links and/or false links. I'd rather know that the users on my site are phisher safe. There were threads to warn users of phishers and such to keep them alerted and I believe I did my best job to prevent phishing on the site. Also, I;d rather know that the users on my site are also false link safe. Anyone can post http://www.rapidshare.com/omgbigfile.rar but really go to like http://www.lol-i-tricked-you.com/. Why not take the extra 5 second to have the links coded to prevent false links and phishers?

2.) Again someone already said this but it's easier to copy and paste links. In vBulletin especially...links get cut off after a certain length. So instead of like http://www.google.com/ you will see something like http://www.g...com/ as the link. If you copy and paste that...it won't work. This is another reason why coding links is nice...

3.) Coding links look a lot nicer. It makes the site look a bit more professional and organized (in my opinion). Also the site looks cleaner too.

4.) Referrers to downloads. If a user on a website clicks a rapidshare link, takes them to rapidshare, and they download a file. What if this is a big download, something popular. Rapidshare will look at where all the people are coming from, remove the download...thus leaving use with dead links. With coding the links, there are no referrers leaving it possible to have a popular download stay alive longer than a hotlinked one.

There's other minor reasons and such but those are the main ones.
