In some cases. But the Phenom II quad cores are very good at multi tasking and threading too. And cost a ton less. The only situation where an i7 would be advisable is if you have to do heavy encoding or encrypting all day. For normal general purpose use i7 is a waste of money. Not because it's bad, but because it's too expensive compared to the AMD alternatives.

I have a Phenom II x4 955 and it's hard to find anything that will stress this thing to 100% CPU usage. Except for synthetic benchmarks which are pretty useless and don't paint a realistic picture in terms of "real" use.

There's no point in conversing the good vs the bad. Not because any of you are wrong, but because everybody's opinion is not based on any hard facts.

My belief, and i have vast experience in this sector is that AMD = budget. End of story. I've tried to explain what to get, yet you choose somebody elses opinion, which is of course your choice, but what im saying is that nobody is posting any proof. All your going to get is a bunch of opinions, none of which are right or wrong, and none that hold any proof.

The best thing you can do is go to http://www.ocforums.com and read up. There is a HUUUGE amount of knowledge to be gained by doing so.

Not sure at who that reply was aimed but what I stated is correct and not random fanboy talk. I personally consider the AMD prices to be realistic. You could call it budget because Intel is more expensive but budget makes something sound like trash, which it isn't .

    Edit:
Never mind the video card part
Well nVidia cards or Intel parts are not overpriced.

Look at the benchmarks (CPU and graphics cards) at http://cpubenchmark.net/

You get what you pay for!

It is foolish to debate which is better, just get the part that has got a higher benchmark result. Simple

So, according to you if something is 5% better it's worth paying double the price for it? Great way of thinking. Especially for someone running a business. IMHO the best way to rate hardware is to look at the bang for buck value. Looking at synthetic benches tells you nothing and neither does the price.

Furthermore, if you're gonna point to a site, point to a descent one such as http://www.tomshardware.com .
