Default a little different legal/paypal advice.

    Hey guys,

I own a medium-sized closed blog/site/cms (5,000+ members), niche but very demanded warez, mostly uploaded by me. Its been running for almost 2 years, with a dedicated userbase, and approx 150-250k uniques/month. I know there are a couple big company spies in my site, but they only ever report file-host links for their files, and most of my files are still up on mirrors or DLC's.

anyway, i recently opened a business bank account (UK), and a new paypal (business), and address on the paypal is an old one of mine.

I recently opened donations to members, and will only leave it there til i have enough to cover hosting costs which wont take long imo. When people donate they dont get any personal info from my paypal account apart from random company name, an email, and a skype-directed phone number.

I guess my question is, can anyone sue me, take me to court etc, if it looks like im profiting from my site via donations? and is it easy for anyone to find out who I am, personal details etc from the donation buttons.

If it is, i know a lot of private torrent trackers use paypal for donations and get away with it fine. does anyone know the tricks of the trade? I know one such method is to filter donations through a "fake hosting company" or something. Is this sensible. I mean it seems easy enough to do to make a fake hosting company and filter donations that way right? Domain + name severs, and random services pages can be pooped out in a few hours.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

well... you kind of made a mistake by even posting this thread and stating you use fake info.
Now anyone who gets ahold of your info can just report you.

Also, if paypal finds out you use their services for donations for your warez site they sometimes suspend / close the account and hold your funds.

Also if you are underage (under 18) your account will again most likely be suspended lol.

Now adays, you can get sued for just about anything. I would just say becareful with what you are doing, and don't make too many posts like this lol

Oh no, I never said you posted the site, i'm just saying if someone where to find out they could report you even faster (some people are just like that unfortunately).

Anyways, since you have fake info there's really nothing you can do.
Just don't let people know you have fake info lol.
Paypal would not release any of your info without a court order probably. So i don't think you have anything to worry about, unless someone sues you for some reason. (which the likely hood of that happening again is very slim)

Yeah - I completely agree, if the info is fake then you don't stand much of a chance of getting the account back as you cannot verify the details - I find that if you call paypal you'll have more luck.

I remember back in the day when my paypal kept on getting limited, after hours of abuse to paypal on the phone they would unblock it - it happened three or four times but it hasn't happened to me for a very long time (12 months + ).

The thing is, it's going to be hard to help you as we don't know what paypal's system is for processing these kind of accounts. So not knowing how they deal with them internally makes it extremely hard for us to help you.
