I feel as if all these DDL sites are in a way harmful. In the beginning it was a way for many sites to join together, lately I see too many DDl type sites where their barely live, heavily advertised, and don't even have any support. There really isn't a point of submitting downloads to these sites, that require linkback. Just by taking a look at alexa and compare katz - the rest are far off.. They all quickly die off. Why is there so many DDL sites? Can someone explain the mentality of DDL site owners who use a pre written script?

mantasx, 90% of DDL sites use pre-written scripts.

phaze, ddl2, katz, etc, all originally based on kddl.
a lot of modern ones, based on wcddl.

Not many webmasters can code their own script, even if they are well respected and experienced in webmastering this niche.

The ones you mention die off after a short while anyway so don't really affect anyone.
The ones that don't die are the real ones which become big.

JmZ, you are right. The little sites that anyone can make and have zero originality never become big.

With that in mind, maybe I shouldn't mind too much. With a hundred+ DDL sites with a PR1 they are thankfully insignificant to affect anything.
