Whats the difference between portable and external HDD?

Pls tell me abt durability of external and portable HDDs. Which 1 is more durable? Wat if i drop it from 5 feet?

All HDDs are prone to break if they are dropped. They may not actually break completely open, so it is viewable, but I did this just this week, dropped it from about 4/5 feet, and now it won't register at all in my PC. Overall I would choose external though, purely based on the read/write speed, and the capacity of them.
