2sl.im Freepresscorps.com Luminaryscience.comOfficial KWWHunction Martial Arts Topic v1
I love martial arts, and I wanted to see if anyone else on KWWH is interested in them.
I've studied in Jinenkan which is a mix of Ninjitsu, Aikido and Kendo with other weapons training as well. I took that for a little over a year but now I've moved on to study with two living legends in martial arts:
Guro/Sifu Dan Inosanto
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnVhEQ9hJJk
(the intro to one of his many DVDs, he's over 73 years old now and still fighting and teaching!!!)
Yori Nakamura
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox_lMMZrGPo <-- shooto lock flows
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smDrrLppVgc <-- demonstrating silat forms and how they are used against an opponent, this one is awesome
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJPnbf6KWWH08 <-- demonstrating Jeet Kune Do.. this one is a MUST SEE!!!!
These are the martial arts I'm going to be training in (focusing on Silat in all of its forms, Kali and other FMA, and Jeet Kune Do)
-Jeet Kuen
-The Martial Legacy/The Intercepting Way
-Kali
-Eskrima
-muay thai
-boxing
-boxe fraincaise-savate
-pentjak silat
-kuntaw silat
-bersilat
-maphilindo silat
-shoot wrestling (shooto)
-capoeira
-bando
-krabi krabong
-combat submission wrestling
-vale tudo
-jiu-jitsu (brazilian and japanese)
I'm also starting to condition my body to fight again as in knuckle conditioning, forearm conditioning, elbow conditioning etc.
(if you don't know what this means, it means I'm beating those parts repeatedly throughout the day until I can't take the pain anymore, wait for it to wear off, then do it again and again).
The saddest thing is that I lost all of my kicking skills. I used to be able to kick someone in the head who is as tall or taller than me (I'm 6'1") from 2-3 feet away. Now I can only do groin/stomach kicks really. It's so sad lol.
Anyways, share some cool martial arts videos, your favorite movies, what you train in, etc. in this topic!
Movie recommendations:

2sl.im Freepresscorps.com Luminaryscience.comMMA doesn't mean anything though, really. It's like just saying "Kung Fu" or "Martial Arts" you know?
But most professional MMA fighters seem to train in a mix of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Thai Boxing, and one other open-hand focused martial art like Karate-Do or Tae Kwon Do or HapkidoShorten your links with http://2sl.im

2sl.im Freepresscorps.com Luminaryscience.comI'm very interested in all kinds of Martial Arts, if you guys know of any that I might not have heard of please share
I'm especially interested in Martial Arts that have come out of India because I only know of one and it is primarily used for show now, not actual utility.
A lot of skills from Yoga transfer over to martial arts so I would think that they'd be prevalent.Shorten your links with http://2sl.im

2sl.im Freepresscorps.com Luminaryscience.comThanks
However, I think you'd be surprised at how few MMA fighters train in FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) or IMA (Indonesian Martial Arts also known as Majapahit or Silat) due to the sheer deadliness of the strikes. These martial arts were never designed for sport, there were designed for the street and for military.
I'd have a really hard time in a cage fight because I'd be throwing throat jabs, headbutts, elbows to the throat and eyes, finger manipulation, groin strikes, etc. All of which are illegal in most MMA leagues.
Most JKD moves would be illegal in competition as well, and all of the moves I learned in my previous martial arts training would be completely illegal as they are pressure point focused "dirty" strikes intended to drop a target in as few blows as possible, and running up to someone with a flying knee to the groin, a quick throat jab (open handed for maximum contact with the trachea), followed by eye gouging, arm breaking takedowns, or leg breaking moves just couldn't happen, and that's all I know how to do.
Therefore I have to train for a while before I'll be able to spar or anything with people at the gym because you must be able to show that you can control your strikes and their power.Shorten your links with http://2sl.im
