Nice simple and clever (as long as you coded it yourself). An idea for Version 2 would be to add a sidebar to pages which would display the Latest News. Sorta like what KWWH and other forums have beside the Shoutbox. It doesn't have to have fancy javascript that scrolls. Just the last 3-4 news items. It wouldn't be too hard to do as all the info is already in the sql by the looks of it.
