I saw this thread on a small webmaster forum, thought I'd asked you all.

When you register a domain, do you register both the .com and .net?

Or you will first register the .com and if it gets better, you'd take the .net or vice-versa.

if you have the budget grab both, but most people grab the .com 1st depending on what your website is about

Yeah it depends on you wether you want both or not, then later you can go ahead and register the other domain .net.

The best to take at first is .com

lol, I'm a little bit on an opposite side though, I've made a site with .NET, and now its doing well SEO wise, with good PR and alexa ranking going upwards, and now the owner of the same domain but .com extension will give me the .com domain, but I don't know what to do with it, since I have the .net domain pretty well worked out now.

And redirecting a .com domain to a .net is weird, I've seen, .net domain redirecting to a .com but not .com > .net. ><"

Any suggestions?

Well there is no big deal in redirecting the .com to .net its fine aswell.
