Getting into the VPS World

I wanna get into the Virtual Private Server business, but of course I'm going in with zero knowledge and understanding of how to install and run them. I was hoping someone could point me in the right place, or guide me what I should do, and whats the best software to use like VMware or Parallels? Virtuozzo Containers or even Hyper V, so if anyone has some pointers or tips I would love to hear them.

have u ever run a dedicated server? on ur own? if not start there first!! otherwise u might run into some issues u never ran into and people will be pissed
