Imagehosting Sites....too hard?

I recently started an imagehosting site using "Scripteen" script. Site currently receives traffic at around 8k unique visitors daily. It is hosted on a VPS with 512MB RAM but it was unable handle the traffic. Is it normal?

Does anyone here owns a image hosting site? where did you host and what are your monthly costs?

Mine is an adult image host (mainly for porn previews).

All decent imagehosts go for dedi. Not VPS.

PM vgnheart, he owns 'imageporter.com' a fast growing image host. He had his shares of problems.

But he's doing a great job and manage to keep it on a successful level.

As for knowing what kind of hosting, no one can really tell you as no site is identical.

It depends on the configuration of the server, the resources, the amount of traffic, the script used, and of course the images that are hosted.

Since you are on a VPS, it's easy to upgrade in just one click.
So I guess just continue to upgrade until the problem ceases. Since you are just starting off, you may just have to continue upgrading until a certain point where everything is fine and steady.
But like anything else, if you are not making money within the first 1 - 3 months to pay for the bills themselves, then you shouldn't continue. There are way too many image sites, and you will just be losing money and gaining nothing.

My site currently has around 2600 images online. Traffic is about 8k to 12k a day.

Im paying 40$ for the host atm. but My VPS with 1.5Gb RAM can't handle that much traffic. My earnings are at 10$ per day but the problem is that the advertising companies have a net 45 Payment Policy so its until I receive the money, I have no chance of upgrading it

Try to sell traffic for websites, in this way you could earn some extra money. Eg 1000 views/clicks for $xx
