Seedbox Industry: Transparency Beyond Savvy

The SavvyStaff (savvyseed.net) and I have always enjoyed following the ?seedbox industry? at large. Since our creation in early 2009, we spent a great deal of time analyzing the industry; finding appropriate pricing levels for our own service, and refining our offerings in the sense of ?point and click? features. Well after much consideration, we felt it was time to release some of our own homework on the dozens of providers out there, as we certainly wished this density of information was more readily available while we were considering which service to go with (pre-Savvy?s creation).

Within our new forum space, we?ve created a new sub-forum entitled, ?Seedbox Industry?. We?ve released two new PDF files for anyone visiting our site and considering our service:

- Seedbox Provider Comparative Snapshot: Compare dozens of providers at once, with nearly a dozen variables to scrutinize. I consider this a quick snapshot tool; enabling its reader to weed out the ?bad? and understand what makes the remaining ?good?. We will regularly maintain and update this file over time.

- Seedbox Providers -- "The Weedy Details Revealed": Beyond providing a quick snapshot tool above, we also wanted to provide a more picturesque form of information; drilling into more specific details about providers. This file reveals a graph, with various angles on providers offering monthly services for $40 or less, and at a cost of $0.17 per gigabyte or less.

It?s important for us to mention the many variables we?ve left out of our analysis. Variables such as customer support and overall responsiveness are core functions of any service provider, and functions we?ve simply not included. In our opinions, the user is the best judge of such reflection ? we rather offer snapshots of more ?factual? based information. As we release new files and more research-oriented materials, the bigger picture may ultimately evolve into something considerably more robust on the provider level ? but until then ? hopefully our research aids to the public?s decision in choosing the ?right? provider.

Best,
Wall.E & Co.
For the record, I'm not a customer of Savvyseed. I use semi-dedicated boxes at Xirvik, which have less users than Savvyseed. However, Savvyseed does VNC and other things that Xirvik doesn't set up for you. Both places have a good reputation, actually.

I got this chart and comparison table off their website today. Savvy announces these charts on their homepage and links to them, but you have to register and go into the forum to actually download them. That's why I'm linking them. Points don't matter anymore anyways.

Overwhelming charts huh?

The big chart details:
- Provider
- Monthly rate
- Setup fee (if any)
- Product category (dedicated, semi-dedicated, shared, etc)
- Total users
- # of torrents allowed
- HD space
- Cost per GB
- WebUI
- Clients
- Memory per user
- RAM per user
- Bandwidth allowed
- Connection notes
- Connection speed (100Mbit, 1Gbit, etc)
- ISP (OVH, Server.lu, ND, etc)
