Of course it hurts sales. You'd be naive not to believe it hurts sales. Most people just want to watch the movie then move on to the next. Sure some of them will buy it if they like it, but most wont.

Look at myself and many others. I never watch TV on a television anymore. What good are the ads doing on commercials now? Sure they have ad-spots for products in the shows but that's a lot of money worth of ads being missed in commercials.

Music. I have a ton of music I like, but I cannot even remember the last time I bought a CD.

Scripts, apps, designs and movies I buy though. Cannot ruin the experience watching a downloaded movie.
