Referencing work is legal or not...
Dear all,
I am sorry at first if this thread does not belong here as i didnt find any other appropriate area for this.
Give me your views on this statement.
As far as i know, if you copy or embed a video from one site to yours, and also reference the original site on the site where the content is, you are absolutely allowed to do so, as long as the reference is there to the original site yes?
Also i mean embedding video's and not hosting them on my server.
Please assist how this topic can go further this will help many people who copy or steal content from one site and put it on another without referencing.

Technically if you reference it is perfectly legal, be it text or pictures, however if the site you copy from & reference is not the original publisher then you are on dodgy ground, so make sure you do check the site you got it from is the original site.
This is assuming the content itself is legal.

Hello Delboy.
Yes the site that i got the content from is original owner of the thing.
What i have basically got is a few pictures which i have not even stored on my server i am just hotlinking them, and some video's that i have embeded onto my site therefore the main server is theirs and not mine.
I have referenced their work all over the site so thats should be fine yeah.
What if they tell me to remove their content from my site? then?

As far as I know yes thats legal as long as a copyright of the real content site is attached or shown with the video
For Example:- Posting and embedding Youtube video links in your site is legal and more over you can just mention that the video isnt hosted at our server and rights goes to youtube and the uploader blah blah blah

Legally speaking as long as you reference it you are fine. They may however not like you hot linking, due to it using their bandwidth and not being on their site, but i guess if the backlink/reference is clearly visible even this they shouldn’t mind so much.
What if they tell me to remove their content from my site? This is where from a legal perspective it is a fine line, it really depends on your country (if you are in the usa and cannot afford to consult with a specialist usa copyright lawyer, then it would be advisable just to remove what they want removing and you will be fine due to safe harbour previsions in dmca) and the specific situation, generally i wouldn’t worry about this, as long as you reference them most people wouldn’t have a problem.
