I'm having the same problem, and I think it should be called "New Year's Present". Maybe everybody's out celebrating 2012's coming. And as of this moment for today, I've noticed the stats are picking up a little bit. Hopefully it can ends up being good for the whole day. I guess there's nothing we can do but be patient.
