I'm using the logo from the website and I'm trying to take the background out but because the fonts used are so thin I can't get good results.

I think you need to transfer the files from 'FTP-Uploads' tab first.

go to http://bitshare.com/myfiles.html then click on 'FTP-Uploads'.
