Bandwith of 2.3.6 to 3.x.x
Hey guys I would like to know if there's much difference in terms of bandwith from 2.3.6 to the latest IPB3. And is IPB really a bandwidth intensive forum software compared to SMF, phpbb or vbulletin?

I never used 2.3 series but I am sure that with some tweaks you can reduce bandwidth usage.

First IPB does not take anymore BW than VBB.
Bandwidth will be based on the number of members on the site a day and the number of large images you allow on your site or files to download.
My site gets 5000+ unique users a day trolling the board and used only 3 gig BW for the month.
I use 2.36 IPB. Have only a few large images. The rest are small and text.
IPB 3 has many drawbacks for shared hosting like 128mb, large cache requirements and requires php 5.2 to execute properly. SO you will use more resources.

wrzc.orgHang on just a second everyone I think your getting bandwidth mixed up with server processes.
Bandwidth is what's used up when people download your site. It totally depends on the skin your using and what server optimizations you've done like gzip or have you external cachable css files. How image heavy is your site etc.
These are things which are completely irrelevant to what type of forum script you use and are relatively easy to modify and reduce.
Now server resources are completely different. That's decided by the script your using, how well coded it is, how many mysql process it preforms per page load etc. This part is the script doing it's calculations, finding topics etc and had to do with the processing speed of your server and the ram available and nothing to do with bandwidth.
I hope this helps clarify the difference a bit better. If your worrying about bandwidth don't worry as it's easy to optimize. If it's server resources then that's a lot harder and has to do with modifying the script or altering settings.

No help Happy. What is your forum software and BW?
It is not easy to reduce bandwidth if you are using 2k images already and the rest is text and you have 5k-10k users daily going through the site.
