You should enter that code to your style through 'Style Manager'.

This is what you did wrong.
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="your created .js file location" type="text/javascript"></script>

You need to put there link to your .js file.

P.S. Put this to showthread template, you don't need header for this.
