scan your vb site for any vulnerbilities ...once you found them try to close them all ..

what do u use to scan your site?

Don't make enemies, try to be friendly with all other webmasters.
Keep up to date, check daily on google "vbulletin 3.8.1 exploit", if one is released, upgrade.
Make all administrators unalterable in the config.php.
Password protect your admincp folder with a different user / pass than the one on your vB script via ".htaccess".

Find a host you can trust.
And finally, take backups daily, or if your forum is really active do it twice per day.
