An unmodded up-to-date phpBB3 is secure, there hasn't been any reports of a clean phpBB3 install being hacked.
Many webmasters make the mistake of installing or adding any modification they think is good, it's not just the number of modifications you have, it's the quality also.
A board can have one modification installed and get hacked, that if the modification wasn't secured, up-to-date and/or officially released.
I advise any webmaster using any type of forum script to only use officially released modifications, and stay up-to-date, whether it's with the forum script or the modification, that's the most important thing.
There are general precautions that you can take, like password protecting your moderator and administrator control panel (ie, with htaccess), but the most important thing is keeping it clean, and up-to-date.
Notice how many times I mentioned stay up-to-date, yes, it's that important.el_jentel1 Reviewed by el_jentel1 on . phpbb3 security i am currently working on getting blackwarez back up i have moved to phpbb3 i know the saying the less mods the less chance of getting hacked but i was wondering is their anything i can install to prevent getting hacked or is phpbb3 good with security measusers anyways i know i said this so dont quote me on that :P Rating: 5
