    EDIT: Just me or does it just not login after it says loading the desktop enviroment?

    Which part you are stuck at. At that red iM that appears after you login ? If it that red iM written on black background, wait it to load, it might take some time. If it is something else , post any screen shot so i may help you .

    Linux: much better then windows &lightweight

    EDIT: you might also want to try fluxbox+VNC, more lightweight
