Does backlinks help if we redirect the backlinked domain to other domain?

Hi

I have be thinking to start a blog (non-warez) in Wordpress, so at the start, they give you domain like ***.wordpress.com.

Now i have a domain, i will redirect the domain to ***.wordpress.com.

SO just wanted to know, if i backlink my domain, will it grow or will the ***.wordpress.com grow (in terms of google rank).!

why dont you host wordpress yourself instead of using remote hosting?.. that way you use your own domain instead of having to redirect it

they said you need to be slight technical while installing plugins and skins etc & i have never handled Wordpress on other hosting so, i was kinda not much into hosting it.

WP will handle almost any plugin and theme itself.
For everything else, Google will help you.

Will host it in my current hosting alongside with my other forum.

BTW i've heard that the wordpress.org provides more features than that of wordpress.com!
