Default When should I upgrade shared to VPS?

hello there Pro webmasters, newbie here.

I need clarifications , when should I upgrade my currently shared hosting into a VPS (that's what I heard)?.. Does it count on the size of database and the traffic used?..

what is the advantage of VPS on shared hostings?.. Haven't tried that VPS thingy because I'm a first timer webmaster .

How much size is your database as of now?.. mine, is only 15MB for 6months old site.

    Right,

You should upgrade to VPS hosting, when the shared hosting company suggests to you or when you feel the amount of continuous traffic is a fair bit. I guess to some extent the size of your database does matter, i'd suggest if it's something with over 200 simultaneous visitors online and the database is fairly large, then there is an need for an VPS.

RAM and Spped - are the main features of an VPS, with shared, the company tends to offer fair shared RAM and Speed which averages (100mb per user). However, with an VPS it generally starts from 256 up until 6GB. So it really depends on your budget too.

Another feature is that an VPS is more flexible, you're able to run your own programs/applications and able to make your own fine tuning tweaks.

How much traffic do you get?

Just 15mb? Did your host recommend you to switch? How much diskspace do you use?
Anyway in my opinion you dont need a vps, Semi Dedicated hosting is what you need. (more powerfull hosting then shared hosting) check my signature for quality hosting.

When you need to change to a vps? It really depends on your site. I have a blog on vps, which has an average of 150 users online, and it is so-so handled by a vps with 1 gb ram - but if i disable some stats plugin, it can run on a crappy shared host without any problems. So it really depends on what you want to give to your users.
I like vps, because i can use my own programs, scripts, and the possibilities are much bigger, but if you just want to run a forum, or something optimized without much of statistic plugins and big images, and other CPU eating scripts, you will be good on a shared host for a long long time.

The easiest answer to your question: you have to change to a vps, when your site is optimized, and still, your account gets suspended on shared hosts.

Thanks for the kind reply guys. My host did'nt ask me to shift to VPS though, I'm just curious about it. I'm currently satisfied on my host now than I was on CrypticVPS/STablelayer. So if I am only having about 50 - 100 users online and a less than 100MB of database, my site perfectly fits on a shared hosting, (I liking it though because it's cheap enough)?..

    mmm mmm!
IMO you should upgrade to VPS when you're site is getting errors all the time..
HATERS GONNA probably bring up some valid points considering I am an ignorant little twat so far up my own ass that i blame my problems on everyone and if you criticize me you're automatically wrong.
