MD5 is a one way encryption algorithm. Filehosts like Rapidshare and Megaupload (and many more) keep a track of MD5sum of every file that is uploaded to their server.. each file has a unique MD5sum. Therefore if the filehost gets a report against a file it deletes it and bans uploading of the same file by banning the MD5sum. However, by adding even a bit to a file, the md5sum gets changed and the filehosts recognizes the file as new. Thus it accepts the file although the data inside might be the same which was banned earlier.. thats why MD5sum changers are included in RL which add a byte to the file so that your file seems "unique" to the filehost and is uploaded successfully.. phew!
